Callidus Scotland Limited, a civil engineering company based in Glasgow, recently approached Blue Triangle, a social care organisation, to assist with their young person’s service, Somerset Place. Callidus staff were introduced to Blue Triangle by Park District café, who are based near the service. Lynne, owner of the café, often dropped sandwiches and pastries into the service, and introduced the construction company to Blue Triangle.
Blue Triangle has been operating in Glasgow for almost fifty years, and the majority of the organisation’s admissions (over 37%) last year were aged 16-25. These young people are either care-experienced or presenting as homeless.
After learning about the service, Managing Director Freddie King was keen to help. “We couldn’t believe Somerset Place was on our doorstep. I have always been committed to local community, which fuels my commitment to offering local apprenticeships and developing personnel through all levels of seniority at Callidus. We support several charities and encourage local community projects, and we are looking forward to working with Blue Triangle. We will continue to support weekly and would welcome other companies to look at this as an opportunity to assist a local charity for young people.”
After meeting with Somerset Place’s Service Manager, Stephen Dennison, Callidus identified ways they could help the young people in the supported accommodation. They donated a new computer, allowing the young people to access further education, benefits and connections with friends and family.
Furthermore, Callidus will donate a sum every week to Somerset Place, allowing staff to purchase essentials for the young people. The service will also use the money to buy sandwiches from Park District café, as a thanks for their donations over the years, and to reinvest back into the local area.
Service Manager, Stephen Dennison said: “We can’t thank Callidus Scotland Limited enough for their kind donations and support. Having access to a computer will make such a difference to the lives of our young people, and we very much appreciate the financial support. We would also like to thank Lynne Park District café for all her support over the years, and for helping us to connect with Callidus.”
