Moving on from homelessness should be a moment of hope — but for many people, it can mean stepping into an empty home with no furniture, no appliances and none of the basics needed to start daily life.
That’s why Blue Triangle launched the Fresh Start Appeal: to help people moving on from homelessness begin their next chapter with dignity, comfort and the essentials they need to feel settled from day one.
Why We Launched the Fresh Start Appeal
Across Scotland, the housing emergency continues to place huge pressure on homelessness services. People are spending longer in temporary accommodation, and when permanent housing does become available, many arrive with very little.
At Blue Triangle, we see first‑hand how difficult these transitions can be. People may move into a new tenancy carrying everything they own in a few bags, with no bed to sleep in, no cooker to make a meal, and no furnishings to make the space feel like home.
The Fresh Start Appeal was launched to address this gap. The campaign focused on providing Moving On Packs — essential household items that help turn empty spaces into safe, liveable homes.
What the Fresh Start Appeal Achieved
Thanks to the generosity of donors, partners and supporters, the Fresh Start Appeal supported 23 people across our services in Scotland to move on from homelessness with confidence.
Donations made it possible to provide:
- Cookers and washing machines
- Beds, sofas and furniture
- Carpets, rugs and curtains
- Bedding, lamps and everyday household items
- Small finishing touches like picture frames
These are practical items but their impact goes far beyond that. Having the essentials already in place helps people feel settled, safe and ready to move forward without additional stress.
One of the people supported through the appeal, Robbie, described being “buzzing” to move into his new home — a moment made possible by the kindness of donors. Alongside Lucie (pictured below) and many others, stepping through the front door with a space ready to live in marked the beginning of a new chapter.
More Than Four Walls
A home is more than a roof over your head. It’s where people recover, reconnect and rebuild their lives.
For people leaving homelessness, having a bed to sleep in, a place to cook a meal and a comfortable space to live can make all the difference. It supports wellbeing, stability and long‑term tenancy sustainment.
The Fresh Start Appeal helped ensure that people didn’t just receive a set of keys. They received the foundations of a home.
